Make Me is book 4 in the Play Me series and follows Mira, as she returns home to Sugar Creek, and falls for her neighbor, Hartley for the second time in her life.

About Make Me
Mira, and her sister Markie, lost their parents when they were young and were raised by their grandma, Lolly. When she was in high school, she and Hartley “dated”. When she was old enough to spread her wings, she left Sugar Creek for unknown adventures, breaking his heart. She spent years traveling light, never collecting anything she could not leave behind when she left. She only returned to Sugar Creek when she had to, like when Lolly would call her home.

Hartley grew up in Sugar Creek and has never left except when he had to for ranch business. He made sure his brother, Grey, when to college and was able to play professional rugby, while he stayed back and ran the ranch. It was always what he wanted to do and he would not change anything. He has been working hard to buy back a piece of land that was sold years ago to Lolly’s family when his family needed the money. He and Mira had a thing in high school, but she broke his heart when she left Sugar Creek and never came back.

After a night of drinking, Mira is on her way back to Sugar Creek, to Hartley’s ranch, with a guest she is hoping he will be willing to house for awhile. Then she is headed to Lolly’s to visit her grandmother and find out why she was summonsed back to Sugar Creek.
Lolly wants to enjoy the rest of her life and go on vacations and not have to worry about Mira and Markie. So she has come up with a plan. Will Mira like the plan? Maybe. Maybe not.
Hartley is invited over to Sunday dinner after church, to Mira’s surprise. After dinner, Lolly sits Mira and Hartley down and tells them her plan. And oh what a plan it is. He is secretly happy with the circumstances, but she is in complete shock. But she is not the only one impacted by this plan, so her decision must now consider other people and what they could potentially lose.
So Mira agrees to the plan, but insists that rules need to be in place so no one gets hurt. Hartley agrees to her rules, knowing he has time to convince her to break them.
Meanwhile, Lolly is on a terror making sure her plan is executed the way she wants it done. Instead of giving Mira and Hartley a choice, she arranges everything without their knowing and tells them when and where to be.
As Mira and Hartley begin their new arrangement, they quickly throw one rule out the window.
But when things start to feel real, Mira and Hartley need to have a heart to heart conversation. She needs to open up about why she really left Sugar Creek and has not wanted to come back. And he needs to open up about what happened with his parents and the guilt he has felt, and why he is so desperate to reclaim that piece of land he has been working so hard for.
Will Lolly’s plan work? Will her little butterfly come home? Will she finally reunite with the one person who makes her complete? And will she stay?
Impressions
Lordy, lordy, lordy, I freaking love Grandma Lolly. She is a hoot. I hope we see more of her in future books, whether this series or another. I really think we should pair her up with Mimi, from The Brewer Family Series and let them go do their thing. The could wreak some major havoc and we would love reading about it.
Although she does not realize it, Mira is a small town girl at heart. And her heart has always belonged to Hartley, whether she would admit it or not. So watching these two come together to make Lolly happy and give them both something they want, is heartwarming. Watching her reestablish relationships she left behind like she never left brought out all of the feels. It is hard to come back when you have been gone so long and expect people to remember you for you personality and not for you leaving everyone behind is hard.
I had to laugh about all of the “about time” comments when Hartley and Mira finally got together. It was just expected they would become the IT couple of Sugar Creek. And everyone has just been waiting for it to happen.
But the pig is my absolute favorite moment of all. I can’t wait to see how many more ex-con animals come to live with Hartley and Mira.
Narration
Scott Rose was a perfect Hartley. A little gruff with a lot of love. Sadie Provost is a new to me narrator, but I enjoyed her take on Mira. Her gypsy ways along with her fear of losing the ones she loves.
