About Penalty Kiss
Bodie lost his parents when he was 18. He took custody of his sister, Billie, and finished raising her, getting her through high school and now college. When she fell in love with his teammate, Bodie and Rome had issues. This led to Bodie being traded in the expansion draft.
Jayne is the only child of her mother and father. When her mother passed away, he was left to raise her. He was a college hockey coach so focused on his job, he did not know how to raise his child. He married shortly after his first wife’s death and they had a child. Since neither of the parents should have had children, Jayne pretty much raised Lindy, her half sister.
When Bodie arrives in Atlanta, he goes to the DDS, Department of Driver Services, to get a Georgia driver’s license. While there, he runs into a young woman headed to the same area as he is. Due to a storm, it takes them longer to get processed, so while waiting they exchange numbers.
Bodie moves into West’s house. His rent is cheaper than what he was paying in Los Angeles before the trade (surprise surprise). West actually opens his home up and rents out several bedrooms to other team members. It is a good set up for everyone involved, and everyone in the house becomes close friends.
Even though Bodie has the phone number for the girl he met at DDS, he creates an account for an online dating service. He uses his full given name for his profile. He meets a woman on the app that intrigues him. They start chatting on the app, getting to know each other, but he is not ready to meet her yet. He wants to contact the girl from DDS first.
When the team members attend an event at their coach’s home, Bodie is shocked to see Jayne, his DDS girl. Even more so to find out she is coach’s daughter. They both know that this is the end of anything they might have had. Coach is adamant that she not get involved with any of his players.
But is this really the end of them? I think not. Bodie and Jayne are drawn to each other. They will need to be careful so that he dad does not find out, but it is possible. Or is it?
Impressions
So many things happen in this story. This is not just about Bodie and Jayne. It is about a new team learning to work together and trust each other. This is about respecting people’s choices and giving them the space to make mistakes and learn from them. This is about right and wrong and the consequences. This is about giving someone a chance at a family they have never had.
I loved seeing West being a role model in this series. My heart was broken for him in Oathbreaker when he walked away from Briar so she did not have to make the choice to leave him. I am so hopeful he will finally find the woman that is meant to be his.
Let me just say, I have so many hopes for Viktor to find his happily ever after, possibly with Kelly. He is the sweetest hockey player who struggles with English and he needs someone to treat him like a king while he treats her like his queen.
Narration
Bryant Walker and Vivienne LaRue are both new to me narrators, but I truly loved them as Bodie and Jayne. I am hoping to hear more from them in the future.
