About Every Shattered Note
Alyssa and her best friend are roommates and business partners in an event planning company. When her current event, a wedding, needs a replacement musician on the day of the event, she mistakenly assumes the guy walking in the door with a guitar over his shoulder is the replacement she is waiting for. If only she knew.
Dexter is at the hotel due to a plumbing disaster at his home. He never expects to be taken as a replacement musician for a wedding by a gorgeous woman. There is something about her that makes him want to spend time with her. So he goes to some lengths to make sure the actual replacement is compensated and disappears. Can we say instant chemistry?
Since Alyssa has no clue how Dexter really is, and is calling him Rafe, he takes advantage of his time with her. He likes being seen as just a regular person. The feeling of being wanted for him and not for who he really is makes him want to never tell her who he really is. But secrets can only be kept for so long.
But Dexter’s time has run out and now he must pay the piper.
Dexter decides to tell her in a private location. This is not a conversation to be had anywhere near big ears. But their time together is interrupted by a family emergency that Dexter must handle personally.
Will Alyssa forgive him? Will she stay with him or leave him? Will Dexter’s family emergency cause more trouble for these two than what they can handle?
Impressions
One of my favorite quotes in this book is “He could make your panties wet playing the chicken dance.” I laughed so hard at that. I mean the chicken dance. But that is the type of charisma that Dexter has.
Alyssa and Dexter are like night and day.
Poor little rich boy, rockstar. But his family is a disaster. And the family history is truly a book in the making. He has his own bad boy history that he contends with on a regular basis. But he has a support system in place that keeps him on the straight and narrow.
Alyssa has always had to fight for everything. This business is important to her and she pours her heart, soul and finances into it. She has very little left over and lives job to job. But this is supposed to be their year. If everything goes according to plan, the business should make a name for itself and be able to sustain both her and her partner.
Dexter and Alyssa are truly meant to be together. She accepts him for him and not his rockstar persona. He is there to help her in any way she needs him. And his band mates truly love her.
Narration
Oscar Reyes and Angelina Rocca are two narrators I do not get to listen to often, but they truly knocked it out of the park with this story. The fun times. The vulnerabilities. The family drama. The band members. Everything.
