Whisper is book 7 in the Westbrook Elite series and we finally get Prism’s story.

About Whisper

Prism is the quiet Elite member. He never causes a problem and he is always there, no questions asked. His brother and sister of his choosing are Kruger and Jess. Jess and he were raised by Gram and absolutely adore her. If it was not for Gram, would he have survived childhood? If so, what kind of person would he have become?

Arson, also known as AAA, is a State Senator’s son, and only child. He is loved and respected by his parents, but is also fiercely independent of them. He is a hot campus deejay who has made a name for himself.

When Elite attends a party that Arson is deejaying, things go oh so wrong. So when Prism and Arson end up in handcuffs, everyone is surprised. Especially with the charges brought against them. The only good thing to come out of this fiasco, is that Arson and Prism acknowledge their attraction to each other.

When Coach and the rest of Elite show up to get Prism, they are met with a surprise. Arson’s lawyer is also there. Niles, the lawyer, gets both boys out of jail and the charges dropped. No evidence to prove any wrongdoing. Great news. But the hits will just keep coming.

Only two people know who Prism really is. These same two people also know about his disabilities. However, Arson has guessed about the disabilities. Because he is astute and watches people, he notices little nuances. Sadly, because of the arrest, Coach had to be informed of Prism’s disabilities. He is hurt that Prism never told him, but he understands why.

Prism does not want to be treated differently just because he has a disability. He earned his spot on Elite and he works hard to overcome anything in his way, without letting anyone know what is really going on with him. Like I said, he is a very quiet, introspective person.

But Arson breaks Prism out of his shell. He seems to be just what Prism needs. He listens and asks good questions and gets Prism to talk.

But no one is expecting the bombshell that is dropped when Arson and Prism are arrested again.

While Prism is waiting for Kruger to pick him up at the radio station that Arson works at, he is hijacked by multiple assailants. Who would want to take him and why? Luckily for him, all of Elite has trackers on their phones. When the mayday call is put out, Elite comes running.

Impressions

Niles is a slimy lawyer. He is rude and disrespectful. I love that Arson convinces his father to fire him. Outing someone is a no go when it comes to Arson and to Elite.

Senator Andrews is a loving father. Although he is hard on Arson, you know he loves his son. He has no issue with his choices in life, except maybe wanting to be a deejay. He is there when Arson calls and needs his help and he is there to protect his son and Prism.

Senator McLaren is a complete douche. He makes me so mad. He should have been castrated at birth,but then we would not have Prism. I was so glad that, in the end, he was “taken care of”. Nobody deserves to be treated the way he treated his son.

Honestly, I was not sure how Prism and Arson were going to fit together as a couple. I was surprised at how well they meshed. And the fact that Arson fit in with Elite. Always a plus when becoming the other half of an Elite couple.

Narration

Both of these narrators were new to me in this book. And both of them are named Lance. Lance West and Lance Isley were both a pleasure to listen to. Portraying Prism with his disabilities and vulnerabilities was not easy, but was done quite well. Plus the strength it took for Arson not to lose his cool over things that were said and done to Prism. The strength was portrayed beautifully.
