About The Way We Win

Jack is the coach of the high school football team. After losing his parents as a young adult, he became the man of the family. He raised his siblings and watched them with pride as they found their way in life and love. He was a professional football player until life threw him a curveball. He came home to Newhope needing his family’s help and support as a young single dad.

Allie moved to Newhope to escape her ex-husband’s crimes. After divorcing him in order to testify against him, she wanted a safe place to raise her son. For the past three years she has worked as the high school librarian and her son has trained with Jack to become a starting quarterback for the high school team.

Jack has a warm and welcoming family. When Allie showed up in Newhope, she needed a summer job. So Dylan, Jack’s sister, hired her to help at the family restaurant. It carried over in to the school year, with less hours, since she loved seeing everyone. Grizzly, the town sheriff and Jack’s brother, watches out for Allie knowing about her ex-husband. They have all adopted Allie and her son into their family.

When a new student shows up at the end of training camp and his father expects him to be the starting quarterback, Jack is faced with some tough decisions. Does he start Allie’s son, Austin, or the new guy? Both are good, but the father is overbearing and grates on Jack’s nerves. Add in his comments about Allie and Jack is infuriated. But he does not let it sway his decision. He is a fair coach and will choose the player he feels can get the job done.

But when Allie starts receiving text messages from an unknown number, Jack and Grizz are there to protect her. Grizz starts running checks on the ex to make sure he is making his check ins with his parole officer. Jack moves in to her house to provide protection services at night while Austin is out with friends.

Will this new development move their relationship forward or stall it out?

When Jack opens up to Allie one night about his marriage, and subsequent divorce, she is angry on his behalf. She is open to exploring his desires, but he is worried she will not like it. But she is completely open to it and willing to try anything as long as she can say stop.

But when Allie gets separated from Jack and his family at the Corn Maze, her past will come back to haunt her. Her ex is on a mission to be exonerated, but he needs her to testify. He is delusional, but determined. But Jack is just as determined and will stop at nothing to save Allie.

Impressions

I loved this story. This is my first Tia Louise book and it did not disappoint. This love story is one for the ages. Two single parents, bonding over circumstances beyond their control. She is a harmless flirt while he works hard to control his desire. He does not want anyone questioning his integrity as the coach.

I think there are two extremely moving scenes in this book that do not directly involve Jack or Allie. Edward, joins the football team as a kicker. He is not expecting to play, but he is surprised when during a key game, Austin tells Jack to put him in. The faith Austin shows in his abilities is overwhelming. This is a kid who has a social disability. He has a hard time making friends, but he becomes the key to winning the game.

Then the second scene is when Austin asks Eddie to prom. This is one good, well raised, considerate kid. And boy did I chuckle at Eddie’s response. These two will be friends for life.

Tia Louise

Tia Louise is the USA Today and #4 Amazon bestselling author of (mostly) small-town, single-parent, second-chance, and military romances set at or near the beach.

From Readers’ Choice awards, to USA Today “Happily Ever After” nods, to winning Favorite Erotica Author and the “Lady Boner Award” (lol!), nothing makes her happier than communicating with fellow Mermaids (fans) and creating romances that are smart, sassy, and very sexy.

A former journalist and displaced beach bum, Louise lives in the Midwest with her trophy husband, two teenage geniuses, and one clumsy “grand-cat.”
