About The Situation
Tate is the baby of the family. His brothers have all settled down, one with his best friend, and he wants what they have. But he has not found The One.
Aurora is the ex-wife of a narcissist, abuser and downright terrible man. She has just started a new job that she loves with the Nashville hockey team. She has no interest in dating anyone after what her ex did to her, both physically and mentally. She is trying to recover from his abuse and start a new life.
Aurora meets Tate while sitting in first class on the airplane she is taking to a convention for work. They exchange names, but she gives him a fake name. They run in to each other again at the hotel for the convention. They meet for dinner and then a night they will never forget. To Tate’s surprise, she leaves him still asleep in bed. What he does not know is that she was called back to Nashville for a work emergency.
What they do not realize is that their paths will cross again in an unexpected way.
Tate thinks he has found the perfect woman for him, but when he learns she gave him a fake name he is frustrated. Then when Gannon asks him to takeover, temporarily, the marketing for their hockey team, he is even more frustrated. Until he sees her.
Sadly, Aurora does not have the same reaction when she sees Tate in the conference room. She thought it was a one night stand, but now he is in her life daily. And he wants more. And if she is honest with herself, she wants more too.
When Tate finds out who she really is, what will he do? This is his best friend’s ex stepmother. This is so not going to go over well. But he cannot let her go. She is his person. Now, to convince her of that. Enter Mimi.
Mimi has taught Tate how to make pies. He wants to make something special for Aurora, so he goes to her for help.
Aurora cannot believe Tate made the pie himself. He explains his weekly dates with Mimi and it warms her heart that he does that. There are more facets to Tate than people know.
Impressions
So many things are going on in this book. Tate is trying to show people that he is more than a playboy. He takes work seriously and now he wants others to take him seriously. Given his history, this will be a battle, but if anyone can do it, it will be Tate.
Aurora is still healing from her marriage and divorce. She needs to find a man who will adore her and treat her like a queen. That is Tate. But he is younger than her and that concerns her. She is very focused on appearances because of her ex and what he did and said to her.
I loved the banter between the brothers on the group chats. And let us now forget the emergency calls to Gannon and Carys, Tate’s best friend. This family is full of humor, considering everything they have had to deal with.
Tate’s grand gesture was what dreams are made of and I thought it was the best thing he could possibly do. For himself and for Aurora.
Narration
Janine Granda is a new to me narrator and I truly enjoyed her interpretation of Aurora. The strength, vulnerability and her playful side. Lance Greenfield is a regular for me. I love listening to his voice and loved how he managed Tate. Wanting to be taken seriously while also still having fun.
