Rocky Mountain Rebel is book 5 in the Six Pack Ranch series and follows Joel, one of the twins, on his quest to become his own person and find love for himself.

About Rocky Mountain Rebel
Joel and Jesse are the youngest of six boys, and they are twins. They have been tied together their entire lives, by choice, and appear to be interchangeable. However, Joel is ready to be his own man. He no longer has the need to be only seen as one of the twins. He wants to branch out on his own and find his own way. Including finding a woman who wants him for him and not because he comes with Jesse attached at the hip.
Vicki is one of three daughters in a dysfunctional family. Her mother is a single mom who hooks up with men to have a place to live. Her older sister is following in dear old mommy’s footsteps. Then there is her other sister, who suffers from a social disorder. Vicki has always tried to protect her sister, Lynn, since she does not know proper social queues. But, sadly, it has cost Vicki her reputation and respect.
When Karen Coleman, Joel’s cousin, approaches Vicki about working at the summer camp she runs as a cook, Vicki wants to, but the fact she will need to be near and on horses is a problem for her. She is scared to death of them. Enter Joel Coleman and an agreement to help each other.
Joel agrees to help Vicki overcome her fear of horses. Before he begins the lessons, he speaks with Beth, his sister in law who is a school teacher, to find out the best way to go about teaching someone something. Her advice is to make it relatable to the student. And off he goes to come up with “lesson plans”.
The lesson/reward program that Joel has come up with is quite unique and entertaining to say the least. And it never fails they are interrupted by someone in the family at the most inopportune times.
Everyone in his family is confused and concerned with Joel’s choice to date Vicki, but no one more than Jesse. As a matter of fact Jesse is angry with Joel. He feels like Vicki is more important than him in Joel’s life. Jesse is not ready to grow up yet, and he does not understand Joel’s need to become his own person.
When a tragic accident occurs at the Six Pack Ranch, it is Vicki who puts her fears aside in order to save one of Daniel’s boys from a runaway horse. She is not thinking about her fear, she is only thinking that this little boy is going to get trampled. Once the horse is caught, all you see is Daniel one one horse and Joel on another. Both men coming for the two just in harm’s way. You know the old adage, get up, brush yourself off and get back on the horse. And that is exactly what they are doing.
But what will happen with Joel and Vicki when their arrangement comes to an end and she goes off to the summer camp? And what will happen between Joel and Jesse? Will these two ever be okay again?
Impressions
I love the Coleman’s and wish I was part of their family. They are so open and accepting of everyone. They may have concerns, but they are willing to let their family make their own mistakes and they are there for them when they need it.
I love that Matt and Hope openly went camping with Joel and Vicki. No judgement. Just fun times for the two couples. They accepted her for who she is, not what others have said about her.
And Travis is a font of wisdom. The advice he and Ashley give Vicki and how open they are in their relationship, gives Vicki food for thought.
Although this started out as a fake relationship to improve Vicki’s reputation and to show Rocky that Joel does not need Jesse to get a woman, what happens in the end is inevitable.
Narration
Tatiana Sokolov does another wonderful job of narrating this book. So many characters are in this book and make appearances. I do not know how she manages all of the different voices.
