Play Book is book 3 in the L A Phantoms series and can be read as a complete standalone. I have previously read Hit Em Hard, a Bang Brothers / L A Phantoms crossover, which is book .5 of this series, but have not read books one or two.

About Play Book
Play Book follows Canyon and Saylor through fun times and not so fun times. They are acquaintances since he is a hockey player and his friends are either datinCang or married to her friends. But when she is out on a blind date, that is not going well, he saves her and takes her home. And so their relationship begins. Well kind of. It is a friends with benefits relationship.
They both have needs and the other is willing to satisfy those needs when needed. But when someone vandalizes Saylor’s art gallery, Canyon is there to support her. The next day, when he tells the guys he is going to check on her and see what help she needs, they all show up with him. These people may not be related, but they are a family. And they take care of each other.
Canyon’s family dynamic is a bit strained. He has a sister, but they have been estranged for ten years. So when she repeatedly calls him, he ignores the calls. But he never expects what is about to land in his lap.
When his team marketing person hunts him down upon return from a road trip and tells him he needs to call a woman from child services, he is surprised. But when he calls and speaks with the woman, he is blindsided.
Canyon is now a single parent of his 11 year old niece. She is sullen. She is snarky. And she wants nothing to do with him. When Saylor enters the mix, Ally is mean and rude.
Meanwhile, Saylor is dealing with her own issues. She has had to hire full time security and beef up her security system at the gallery due to someone who is harassing her. She is not comfortable sharing this information with Canyon since he has his hands full with Ally. In addition, she is having issues with the couple who rents out the other half of the duplex she owns.

When Saylor’s stalker shows himself, will she be able to save herself and those who are caught in the crossfire? Will Canyon be the one to save her, or will their relationship be too far gone for him to be present?
Impressions
I will admit, I do not like Canyon’s dad in any way, shape or form. I understand what he did and why he did it years ago. But I do not understand his stance now. He tells Canyon to dump the girlfriend so he does not lose his focus on hockey and the playoffs. And he tells him to relinquish custody of Ally to foster care so she can have a real family. Why would a grandfather completely write off his only grandchild?

About Kat Mizera

USA Today Bestselling author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast.
Kat’s a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she’s not writing, she’s either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach.
As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…
