Penn is book 17 of the Pittsburgh Titans and follows the troubled star center of the team as he relives a previous tragedy while reconnecting with an old friend.

About Penn
Some strange things have been happening to Penn ever since he was traded to the Titans. A player from another team blindsiding him with a hit. A spectator in the stands throwing a beer on him. But he never says anything about it or wants to discuss it with his teammates. As a matter of fact, he is antisocial with his teammates. He declines invitations from them. Then if he does show up to a get together, he makes a scene. What is going on with the star center of the team?
When a blast from his past shows up in Pittsburgh asking his teammates for him, he is surly and hangs up on them. But his teammates are not ready to let him get away with that. Instead, Penn’s contact information is left displayed on the table for all to see.
Mila is a memory from the past that Penn would prefer stayed in the past. Yet, here she is in Pittsburgh. Not just in Pittsburgh, but at his house. She reminds him of a time in his life he would rather forget about. A time of pain, sorrow and betrayal.
After the fallout of what happened years ago, Penn has spent his life erecting walls to protect him from future hurt and betrayal. His teammates do not understand him, but they want to. But he has always been reluctant.
But when his past comes knocking on his door, he will need the Titan’s help. He first goes to Brienne and Callum to explain the situation. From there, he has to talk with his teammates. They need to understand what he is asking of them and the implications. Mila needs protecting at all costs. He cannot lose her.
But when Mila does the one thing that Penn absolutely refused to let her do, what will be the fallout? Yes, she betrayed him. She lied to him. Will he be able to forgive her? Or will he go back to his walled off self?
Impressions
I will be honest and say this book surprised me. The back story is sad and heartbreaking. It affected so many lives, and not in good ways. And the effects of what was done is still being felt today by those involved in one way or another.
Mila is a strong woman. I love seeing that her backbone remains intact even under the stress. She is determined to bring down the person threatening her. But it could cost her the one person she desperately does not want to lose.
Penn is learning to let his walls down thanks to Mila. But will her actions cause him to revert? His teammates are finally getting a full picture of who this man is and what he stands for.
It was such a joy to see Jameson Force Security cross over into this book. Catching up with the guys and seeing what they are up to was a nice little surprise. Here is hoping we see more of them in future books.
Narration
Sean Masters is quickly becoming a favorite narrator of mine. I have been thoroughly enjoying his voice and his take on the characters. He has never let me down on any of his narrations. It has been awhile since I have listened to Lucy Rivers, but I loved her in this book. Her take on Mila was spot on and the fact she did not hide her fear or her lust was even better.
