Over the Edge is book 3 in the Crimson Edge series and follows guitarist, Tate Jeffries, as he finds his forever during an unplanned stop in upstate New York.

About Over the Edge
Tate is estranged from his parents. He has never felt their love and they have been hypercritical of his choice of professions. He is the guitarist for Crimson Edge, the rock band. He is tattooed and leather wearing and the ultimate rockstar. He is quiet compared to other rockstars. He hangs in the shadows. But when it is go time, he is out there putting everything he has in to the show.
Summer is an only child. Her father left her and her mother when she was younger and it has just been the two of them ever since. Six years ago, after Summer graduated from college, her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Summer gave up her dreams to move back home and take care of her mother. It cost her multiple relationships and she struggles financially to cover the costs that the insurance does not pay for her mother’s care and medications, but after everything they have been through it was the least she could do.
When the bus breaks down on the highway, the band is forced to walk to the truck stop a couple of miles down the road. They are soaked and need a place to wait out the storm, so they head in to the diner.
Summer is the only waitress working and the diner is full due to the storm. She is working as fast as she can, but she is only one person for all of the diners. When the band sees how hard she is working and how the customers are complaining, they step in and help out. They bus tables, refill coffee, mop up the floor. Whatever needs to be done, they do.
There is a natural connection between Tate and Summer. When the storm lets up, the band heads to a hotel, but Tate heads out with Summer.
One night leads to two, but Tate has to meet up with the band in Montreal for their next concert. After two wonderful days and nights together, they say goodbye. No strings, not ties, no expectations, no future.
Well, until Summer gets the surprise of her life.
When she calls Tate, gone is the fun and caring guy she spend two days with. She does not even recognize this version of him. But life goes on, and she cannot dwell on his reaction. She has to make a plan.
Tate is in a spiral. Lucky for him, Angus recognizes something is wrong and they sit and talk about it. Then Tate is off. He has to fix what he broke and become the man he needs to be. He will not repeat what his parents did. He is better than that.
Life starts moving at warp speed for both Tate and Summer.
Summer flies to Vegas for Taryn’s bridal shower and she feels overwhelmed. She is with world class supermodels and clothing designers. She is a simple girl. This is not her style. It is fun, but she feels out of place.
And it just continues. As she goes on tour with the band she is constantly reminded this is not her life. She loves the other girls, but she is worried about how her mom and being gone for so long. But when a offer of a lifetime is handed to her, how can she say no.
What will it cost her to take advantage of this opportunity? What will it cost Tate? Can these two repair what happens next? Who will be the voice of wisdom when everything blows up? Will Summer learn that she has to communicate and trust Tate? He is not her father or the other men she has dated in the past. When will she get that through her head?
Impressions
I had moments of just wanting to slap Summer silly. I understand her insecurity about being left. But I felt Tate was the only one putting the work. He was constantly trying to soothe her even though he did not do anything wrong.
I think my favorite scenes in this book were at the nursing home when Tate would play the guitar and sing to the residents. Especially when Summer’s mom was lucid and knew exactly who he was and would sing along with him. Those are precious moments that should be treasured.
I love Dolly in this story. Not only is she Summer’s boss, but she is her mother’s best friend since they were five years old. On top of that, she is the voice of reason for Summer. She is there for her, to help her make a plan and to lend a hand when needed so Summer can have a life of her own.
I will admit, I cannot wait for Jonny to find his person. He is the ultimate playboy, but his time is coming.
