I enjoyed reading about characters from the Dare world that weren’t Dares. Gabby comes from a wealthy family, but she is a simple girl who just wants to paint and work for a museum. But her parents have other ideas. Instead they expect her to marry the man they have chosen in order to gain more power. But Gabby is not having it.
Gabby runs to The Back Door to drown her sorrows. Instead she meets Maddox, the bar manager. Next thing we know, she’s spending the night at his house in order to sober up. The next day she negotiates with him to stay. She gets a job, helps at the bar after her shift and starts painting again. She’s finally living the life she wants. So when her parents show up and demand she go with them, she finally stands up to them. This is a strong woman who knows what she wants and will do anything to get what she wants and keep it.
