About If You Need Me
Dallas is a player for the Toronto Terror hockey team. In addition, he and Hemi went to school together. He was a jock and typical of all teenage boys, he picked on the girl he really liked. Sadly, he never got the girl.
Hemi is the Marketing Director for the Toronto Terror hockey team. As such she is responsible for recruiting players marketing opportunities. Growing up, she was a nerd and hated Dallas. During high school he caused her a lot of problems. She never knew he had a crush on her, and to this day she hates him.
Hemi is a go-getter. She has been working with the women’s team on marketing, but she is being thwarted by a co-worker, who happens to be male and is working with the youth and men’s teams. He is rude to her and disrespectful, but she never complains to management.
Hemi is trying to find a date to her 10 year high school reunion, but none of her dates are working out and she is running out of time. Enter Dallas.
Dallas knows this is important to Hemi and he wants to do anything he can to make her happy. So he agrees to be her boyfriend for the reunion. But Dallas is unstoppable. When he learns that her former best friend just got engaged to the guy she stole from Hemi, He ups his game and wow! Just WOW!
So much is going on Hemi’s personal life and professional life, she is lucky to have her girls. Hammer, Rix, Tally and Dred support her when Dallas surprises her at the Charity game. They are there for her when she is trying to figure out what to wear for different events. They are just there for her.
Things seem to be going great for Dallas and Hemi, until fate steps in and shakes things up. Dallas has been keeping secrets from her and when they come out, she will be devastated. Dallas is heartbroken and Hemi will not talk to him. He wants to explain, but she is avoiding him.
Will Hemi ever let Dallas explain what happened back in high school and how it has affected him ever since? Will Dallas make a grand gesture to win Hemi back?
Impressions
I had to laugh so hard at Hemi’s brothers and their day with Dallas. No normal man can do what they did to him and still be standing. But I also loved that when Dallas needed help to get through the one activity, he called his “brothers” and they all showed up.
Hemi and her girl squad make me want to be a member. I love how they are there for each other in good times and in bad. To top it off, Dallas knew she would want her people there after the reunion and he arranged for everyone to be there.
Although he was not overt about his gestures, he was always doing things for Hemi. It makes me wish I had a Dallas in my life. Someone who really gets me, knows what I need and just gets it done.
Narration
I love listening to both Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt and they do not disappoint in this book. The range of emotions is incredible and they both deliver them to perfection.
