About If You Claim Me
Connor was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. As the sole male heir to the Grace family fortune, he is expected to take over the family business. But he likes to buck the system, and plays hockey professionally for the Toronto Terror. He has never fallen in line with what is expected of him by his family. Instead, he chooses to be the outcast, the rebel, the villain.
Dred grew up in the foster system. She has bad memories and dreams because of things that happened to her or around her while in the system. She is amazingly smart and has a doctorate in Library Sciences. She works for the Toronto public library, implementing and finding funding for community programs for foster kids and women in need. As a public servant, she makes very little money, but she is lucky that her grandmother left her an apartment.
When Dred receives a bill from her landlord stating she has not been paying the proper rent, she has no idea how she is going to pay the back rent.
Connor’s grandmother, Meems, is having some heart issues and needs an operation, but she is not healthy enough for it yet. The one and only thing she has ever wanted for Connor is for him to be happy. She has suggested he ask Dred out on a date. But Connor does not do anything small. So instead, he and Dred come to an agreement to get married to make his Meems happy in exchange for him paying off her back rent.
He is a billionaire. She is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. This is a marriage of convenience. And maybe a little revenge on his parents.
But when they both start having feelings for each other, things will change.
In the process of falling in love, they forget to communicate. Connor does everything in his power to make Dred happy. But he never talks about his feelings. Is he in love with her as much as she is with him?
Seeing Connor work with his team in a more cohesive manner than in the past is encouraging. He feels like he is actually part of the team now. But when family drama hits the major news outlets, all bets are off. He will shut down his emotions, shutting out everyone he loves.
Dred does not know how to reach Connor. He has shut her out. He is breaking her heart in the process, but he has no idea. Until Meems gives him a piece of advice.
Impressions
This has been one of my favorite Terror books. Two broken people just trying to get by day to day. She has her babe brigade. He has Meems. But is that enough? These two were destined for each other, even if he is her best friends enemy.
When secrets are revealed about Connor’s altruism, will Flip find a way to help him win Dred back? Will Lexi convince Connor what he needs to do to make his relationship work?
We see some Easter eggs in this book for the next Terror book and you do not want to miss these. There will be so much coming in book six.
Narration
Jason Clarke is such a dream to listen to and I loved him as Connor, as well as all of the other characters. Kat Auden is a new to me author and I loved her as Dred. She brought a vulnerability and damaged character strength from love and acceptance.
