About Foster

Foster is a hot hockey player for the Pittsburgh Titans. He shares custody of his daughter, Bowie Jane, with his ex-wife. His story begins with his summer vacation with his daughter. He finds out his ex, Sandra, has a boyfriend, Chet, in the movie industry and that Bowie Jane does not like him. When he returns Bowie Jane to Sandra at the end of summer, he meets Chet. He is cordial, but he does not let on that he researched the guy and knows all about him.

After Foster returns to Pittsburgh and is starting training camp, Sandra calls him and tells him she has a career opportunity but it is in Singapore. Foster says NO, but she says too bad. He immediately goes up to GM Callum Derringer’s office. Owner, Brienne Norcross, is in his office waiting for him. They know something is up and are there to help. When Foster tells them what is going on, they step up and start making appointments and accommodations to help Foster get full custody of Bowie Jane. This includes a lawyer specializing in fighting for full custody for single dads, time off when needed and a nanny, Mary Elizabeth aka Mazzy.

When the emergency custody hearing is held, Sandra is not prepared to lose. She expected the judge to say that a child belongs with its mother and grant her the right to take Bowie Jane to Singapore with her.

Mazzy and Bowie Jane hit it off immediately and become partners in crime. They have fun when they can and do everyday things like homework and cooking dinner. Bowie Jane even gets to do sleepovers allowing alone time for Foster and Mazzy. They are attracted to each other, but don’t want to upset the status quo. When Bowie Jane gives her blessing that Foster can date Mazzy, and even gives him pointers on what women like (insert flowers), you see a very mature young woman blossoming into what she can be. She has a much different relationship with Foster than she does with Sandra.

So everything is moving along. The hockey season is in full swing. Mazzy has the house under control. Bowie Jane is going to school, doing homework and going to sleepovers. Basically a normal life. But what happens when Sandra returns? Only time will tell if she comes back permanently. Only time will tell if she wants a relationship with her daughter, or just wants to hurt her and Foster. And what will this do to Bowie Jane mentally and emotionally? Children are resilient, but some things leave a lasting impression.

Foster by Sawyer Bennett Story Summary

Narration

It is always a joy listening to Tor Thom and he doesn’t disappoint in Foster. It has been awhile since I have listened to Maxine Mitchell and I had forgotten how good she is. This was the first time I have listened to this pair together and enjoyed the combination.
