Fair Play is the sixth, and final, book in the LA Phantoms series and follows league problem child, Rome, as he falls for Billie, his roommate and teammate’s younger sister.

About Fair Play
Rome was just traded to the Phantoms mid-season. As an older player in the league, he knows his playing time is limited. He never thought he would ever come back to Los Angeles, but here he is in his hometown playing hockey, possibly for his last season.
Billie is the little sister of hockey player Bodi. When their parents were killed years ago, Bodi stepped in and finished raising her. When he was called up from the minor league team in Phoenix to play for the Phantoms during playoffs last year, he brought Billie with him. She is her final year of college but is in a special program that allows her to earn credit towards her master’s degree while finishing her bachelor’s.
Rome and Billie meet by chance in a club. He is out trying to bond with his new teammates. She is out with her roommates. When a situation escalates, Rome steps in to deescalate it. What he does not expect is to like this snarky, twenty two year old woman.
Fast forward to when Billie calls Bodi to come and move her out of her apartment. A situation ensued with her roommates and she is done. Rome agrees to tag along in case Bodi needs backup. Boy is he surprised when he sees how Bodi’s little sister is.
When Billie moves back in with Bodi, Rome is put on notice that she is off limits. She is his teammate’s sister, he knows she is off limits. But the attraction is strong.
Rome goes above and beyond when it comes to Billie. When she needs a car to get back and forth to school, he arranges for her to borrow his dad’s car. When she has an opportunity to become a waitress at a 50’s Diner, but she needs to be able to work on roller skates, he takes her out to practice.
When Rome gets injured during a game, he flies home alone. What he wakes up to must be a dream.
As Rome is healing and rehabbing his leg, Billie is super busy with school and work. Her work life is providing the needed research for her final papers at school. It is always nice when karma is in your court.
But when Bodi finds out what has been going on between Rome and Billie, he flips his lid. On a road trip, no less. Rome does everything in his power to not react to the confrontation. He knows he is in the wrong. But will that be how Billie sees it? Is that how members of the team management will see it?
Impressions
I realize Rome is older than Billie, but why does he think he should be the one to sacrifice everything without talking with her first? He has had a great year, minus the injury, with the Phantoms. It is possible he could get another contract in the off season. He has been trying to bond with his teammates. He does not seem to be his same old selfish, belligerent self. He is changing. And I do believe Billie is the reason.
Billie has dreams. For today, for tomorrow and potentially for the future. But nothing will work if Rome is not willing to talk to her. She might be young, but she is smart and knows what she wants.
I think the best scene in this book was when Rome is called in to the owner’s office at the end. I love that he included Billie in the discussion. And the fact that Ms Barrowman also included her. Communication is key to any relationship. And women need to stick together.

About Kat Mizera

USA Today Bestselling author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She has never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she would probably choose the west coast.
Kat is a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she is not writing, she is either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach.
As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There is something enticing about hockey players and romance…
