Falling For Her is the second book in the Falling For series and follows detective Lincoln Burke as he falls for Collins’s best friend, Finley.

About Falling For Her
Lincoln, known to the town as Burke, is divorced and has a son, Asa, from his marriage. His ex-wife in now marrying the man she cheated on him with, so Lincoln will have their son for the next month while they are on their honeymoon. He had Theo remodel the apartment over the garage for a nanny to live in. But he is having issues finding a nanny that he is happy with.

Finley has grown up with money. She is a trust fund baby. Her grandfather purchased her penthouse for her so he knew her home was safe. Two years ago she married a man from her social circle. But six months later, she was done and filed for divorce. In an effort to get away from the stress he is causing her, she heads to visit her best friend, Collins, in Montgavin.

Finley is stunned when she gets to Collins’s and finds out she has a job interview to be a nanny. She hurries up and cleans up after a long drive. When she finally meets the man who needs a nanny, she is stunned. And so is he. But Lincoln is desperate, so other than giving her grief about speeding on her way into town, he hires her.
On her first day, Finley takes Asa into town for breakfast. Then they meet up with one of his friends to play. When Lincoln gets home, she tells him what they did and who they were with. She wants him to think she is competent and can do the job. Even though she is faking it to the max.
When Asa tricks Finley into going fishing, things get a little dicey. She gets hurt by a hook. There is an incident with her car requiring repair work. And Lincoln is fit to be tied. Asa knows better than to go fishing without him. Things can happen, and they did. They both promise Lincoln no more fishing unless he is with them.
When Asa’s friend asks if he wants to go horseback riding with him, he so wants to go. Finley decides to take him without asking for permission. He is a natural on a horse. So after practicing in the ring for awhile, they all go on a trail ride. Finley is by his side the entire time to make sure she can help him in any way if he needs it. Little do we know her experience with horses is elite.
But things keep happening to Finley that Lincoln is fit to be tied about. Especially when someone breaks into her apartment, on his property and ransacks the place. She has not told him about her, hopefully, soon to be ex. But she is sure that is who is responsible for everything. He and his captain, however, are wondering if the targets of his current case have found out he is involved and where he lives and is now targeting him and his household members.
When Lincoln’s ex calls to tell him they are coming home early due to an injury, it means Finley’s job is done. Since neither of them asked the other to stay or to see where things could go, she goes back home. But what she finds is an ever increasing problem that needs to be taken care of.
Finley’s ex is determined to get half of her trust fund in the divorce or he refuses to sign the papers and will contest it. Her lawyer wants her to speak with him. She has an ironclad prenup. But he will not listen to reason. And his behavior is escalating.
When Theo shows up at Lincoln’s home, he comes bearing bad news. Finley is in the hospital. Lincoln and Collins fly to New York where Finley is in the hospital. When he finds out what happened to her, her ex should be thankful he is behind bars.
But Finely has information about something, but she does not understand why it is familiar to her. When she tells Lincoln, he is fit to be tied. They return to Montgavin and he immediately meets with his captain about what she told him. They knew there was a mole on the team for their big joint investigation, but who it turns out to be blindsides both of them.
Impressions
Finley may be a trust fund baby who does not know how to cook or clean, but google is her best friend. She uses it for directions, how to do things and recipes. When she finally admits to Lincoln that she does not know how to cook, he decides to teach her. They start with little things. This is a man willing to take his life in danger giving her a knife to help prepare dinner.
I love that Finley was willing to do whatever Asa wanted to do, even if it meant digging for worms. And she never asked for permission from Lincoln to do anything with him. But she did have to ask for forgiveness a couple of times. But my favorite scene was the showdown about taking Asa riding on a horse. If he only knew her level of horsewomanship, he never would have questioned her. Instead she had to justify herself to him. But when she shocked him with her true level of capability, he was speechless. As he should be.
I love Finley. I want to be Finley. This woman is amazing. She is clueless about what to do with a child. And yet, they have such a good time doing different things every day. Not many people are good at this, so kudos. She may not be able to cook, but she knows where to get good food and to make it a well rounded meal.
But my favorite moment was when Lincoln has Finley move into the house until her apartment is cleaned up after the investigation. Here she comes with “a black box under her arm” that Lincoln has no clue what it is. If he ever drank coffee that was not made at the police station, he might have known it was a milk frother for her coffee. It is her one luxury she allows herself. Do NOT mess with her coffee.
Narration
I have been on a roll lately with Teddy Hamilton and Samantha Brentmoor. Both are favorites of mine and I love listening to them. Samantha brings the posh of Finley to a story set in a small town. Teddy brings the worry of a father leaving his son with a nanny for the first time. So much happens behind the scenes in this book, but these two blend it well into the main story of falling in love with your polar opposite.
