Baylor has always had aspirations to go to the big city. Growing up she never saw herself working the family Inn with her sisters. She went to college right out of high school and then got a job in New York City. She started dating Todd, who worked at the same company. She thought they had the same dreams, but she was shocked to find out they did not.
Macklin is best friends with Cope, Baylor’s brother-in-law. They grew up together and have remained tight friends, even during long absences. Macklin did the rodeo circuit for years, when he graduated from high school. College was not for him.
Macklin has been biding his time with Baylor. The age difference was always an issue for him. But as they got older, it became less of an issue.
Baylor was just a teenager when Macklin first noticed her and he was starting the rodeo circuit. When she graduated high school, she was determined to go away to college. So he waited for her. When she graduated from college, he thought that was their time. But then she dropped a bomb on everyone when she said she was moving to New York for work. He stayed on the circuit through all of this. But when his next chance came, he had left the circuit and was ready to trade in his cowboy boots for the big city. But then she brought home Todd and introduced him to everyone. He never admitted it, but his heart was broken.
But when Baylor returns home for Ellie’s baby shower, she has come home for good and not just a visit. Mack finally has his chance.
Mack starts slow. Little things. Being in the barn when Baylor comes down to visit the horses and give them carrots. Cooking her dinner. Talking. Getting to know each other. Just spending as much time together as possible.
Then one day, the inevitable happens. No precautions. Just taking a chance and seeing what happens.
Impressions
Baylor and Macklin have been waiting a lifetime for their chance. Both want the same things. Family, a home, children. He supports her in whatever she wants to do for work. Even making some suggestions that she had not taken the time to think about yet. He absolutely adores her, loves her and will cherish her for always.
Baylor never thought of Macklin in that way. But after what Todd did, she is starting to look at him in a new way. He treats her like a princess. And what woman would not want that? I mean what woman would not want to be the center of all that manly goodness?
I really despised Todd. Why on earth would you take away the one thing you know Baylor wants in life? Are you crazy? And then to come to her home and tell her you were embarrassed that she did not attend some event with you and you had to go alone. Really dude? Grow up and grow a pair.
I freaking love the youngest Moran sister, Courtlyn. She has no filter and just speaks her mind, mindless of her audience. I cannot wait to see who she ends up with. She is a handful and the man who falls in love with her will have his hands full.
Narration
This is my second Erin Mallon narrated book in a row. It seems like when it rains it pours. She is a fun listen and really gets into her characters. Stephen Dexter is a fabulous Macklin. Truly loved the gruffness he brought to the cowboy role.
