Intercepted is book 1 in The Coopers and follows college lovers Fin and Vee as they navigate a second chance fraught with challenges and possibly some animosity.
About Intercepted
Vee is the daughter of the owner of The Lexington Coopers, the local professional football team. When she went to college, it was her chance to be herself and not her father’s daughter. She did not hide her last name, but she did not advertise who she was. She was determined to make it on her own. She worked with the college football team learning as much as she could knowing what her future had in store for her. But she never expected that one man would make such an impression on her.
Fin is the college team quarterback. He comes from a middle class family. He is planning to enter the draft after college and hopes to play professionally for many years. When he meets Vee, he is a red shirt on the team. That means he is a transfer and not eligible to play, but eligible to practice. They fall for each other, but life has different ideas for them and they will end up going their separate ways.
When Vee is told about a new trade for the Coopers, she is stunned. It is supposed to be a one year contract, so she figures she can avoid him for the one year. But things change and Fin’s contract is extended to three years against her wishes.
Vee is now the Vice President of Stadium Operations and Marketing. But her father suggests she spends more time on the field and learn all aspects of the team operations. She is excited. But her first homework assignment is a doozy with a short amount of time to complete it. But she is up for the challenge.
Vee is involved with a man, but she does not have the same level of commitment as he does. Ever since college, she has had a hard time committing to a relationship. So when he presses her to move in with him, it is time to move on.
Fin watches from the background as Vee dates another man. He is still in love with her, even though things did not end well for them in college. He is determined to find out why she went radio silent, and why she never told him who she really was.
Fin offers to help Vee with her homework, especially since he also has to learn it. But she is determined to do it on her own. But when he shows up at her office while she is moving checkers around in different formations, he sees an opening and takes it. And the ice starts to thaw.
Over time these two continue to spend more time together. So when things move on to the next step, and the ice no longer exists, no one is really surprised. But Vee is determined to keep it quiet. She is management and he is a player. Although there is nothing in the manual about fraternization, she wants to keep both of their reputations intact.
But when Vee is called into her uncle’s office, she is shocked to see the entire family there. And even more shocked by what she is told.
Impressions
Vee and Fin have obstacles to overcome from their college years. But what happens at the end of the book will provide its own set of challenges for these two. Will she walk away or will she need him as her support system?
I will admit I do not like her one cousin. He is a misogynistic piece of work. Nor do I like her ex, Preston. He is entitled and believes she is an asset. In my mind, I think he is looking at her as funding to expand his family business, but I have not proof of that in this story.
This book is a cliffhanger and I so need the next book. I cannot wait for it to come out on audio. I will bet the first in line to get it.
Narration
Dani California and Soren Gray are both new to me narrators. I truly enjoyed listening to them and look forward to them narrating book two.
