Cage is book 2 in The New Bradfords series following cousin Gina Grace, also known as Gigi, as she learns to trust her instincts again with hockey player, and single dad, Owen.
About Cage
Gigi is a dog show judge, dog groomer, and dog handler. She has always loved dogs, so she went to college to specialize in them. Her whole life revolves around various dog activities, including working with rescues and shelters to find foster homes for them.
Owen is a single dad to a lovely 7 year old daughter. He is a professional hockey player that was recently called up from the minor league team to play for the LA Champions. He has a bloodhound named Ladybird who loves to sing to Shania Twain.
When Owen is called up to LA, he needs a place to stay really quick. Mav offers him a room at the house he shares with Gigi. He did the same thing for Gavin last year, when he was traded to LA. No big deal, just another roommate for a short time.
Gigi is on a hiatus from men. The last man she dated ghosted her. She is still trying to figure out what is wrong with her that they do not want to stay with her. But Owen is tempting her end her hiatus.
Owen has not dated anyone since his daughter was born. He still carries guilt over what happened to his wife and he feels he should honor their vows and her memory. But Gigi is tempting him to resolve his internal debate and start living his life again.
Impressions
These two are doing everything in their power not to fall for each other, but one broken down car plus a major freeway accident, leads to one night, one bed, in the “Bates” motel. They play it as a fantasy so that feelings are not involved and there are no repercussions. But are they fooling themselves?
Stolen glances turn in to stolen touches. But Owen is not ready to commit. He feels like he is betraying his wife with these feelings he has for Gigi.
But will a blast from her past ruin what Gigi and Owen are finally starting to build together?
These two have baggage. They know that the other has relationship issues. But they cannot help themselves. It is like fate keeps pushing them together.
I am not sure who stole the show more. Owen’s daughter, Maddie. Or Spanky and Ladybird. So many comedic moments in this book center around the two dogs. But my favorite is when Ladybird sings to Shania Twain.
