About The Mysterious One
Walker Weston is a world renowned chef. He and his family own and operate numerous upscale restaurants all over the world. They have partnered with the Coles and Spades to place restaurants in their hotels. But Walker is burned out. Not one of his siblings can do what he does and they do not understand the toll it is taking on him.
Alivia is an only child of an alcoholic mother and a verbally abusive stepfather. She pays rent, but it never seems to be enough. She needs to move out, but the cost of living in Los Angeles is so high, and her stepfather, Dean, is always demanding more money from her, that she is frustrated with trying to find a place she can afford.
After an incident occurs in Walker’s restaurant, his brother, Colson, and sister, Eden, force him to take a vacation. He tries to explain to them that he has lost his love of cooking. That his inspiration is gone. But they do not understand. They think that by him getting away from the business for a couple of weeks, it will fix all of his problems.
So when Eden installs an app on Walker’s phone and tells him to use it, he just shakes his head. But he ultimately does.
Alivia works in a senior living home as a server. She loves the residents and enjoys talking to them. But in order to make enough money to get her own place to live, she will need to get a second job.
One night after dealing with Dean and her mother, her phone pings from an app that she forgot she even had on her phone. She is shocked to see she has a perfect match for a hookup. It is the perfect excuse to get out of the house for the night.
Ultimately, Walker and Alivia end up spending two days together. They share a lot about themselves, but not their names. He is Whiskey to her and she is Sky to him. So imagine his surprise when he sees her in the most unexpected place ever.
What is he going to do? She works for him. There is a no fraternization policy he signed. Is he now in violation of that policy?
There are a number of things that can be done to avoid any potential conflict. But Walker is not willing to have a document come between him and Alivia’s time together. He does not want her to think that their time together meant nothing to him. Because it did mean something to him.
As time goes on, and Walker and Alivia continue to work together, he learns more about her dreams. Her dreams become his dreams, but he does not tell her that. He starts doing little things for her. And by doing these little things for her, he is starting to get some of his love for cooking and creating back. Just not in the same way as before.
Only time will tell if Walker can overcome what is causing him to be an alphahole and determine what the next steps are. And Alivia will be right beside him through it all. As well as his family. They love Alivia and the fact she is bringing Walker back to them.
Impressions
I love the relationships Alivia has built at the senior living community. It is so hard to get close to the residents and then to lose them. But the relationship she has with one resident is super special. She is an artist and the painting she does for Alivia based on just a description is amazing.
Walker’s description of how Alivia quiets the noise in his head and allows him to relax is sad. It saddens me that there is nothing else in his life that can do this for him. But it makes me happy that she can be his sanctuary. Everybody needs one and she is his.
I am so angry with Dean and Alivia’s mother. They have absolutely no parental care in teh world. They only care about themselves and their alcohol. They only concern they have for Alivia is how much money she can give them.
I will admit I feel like some issues were left open in this story. And I am the type of person who needs answers. So here is hoping there will be more coming in the future.
