If You Love Me is book 4 in the Toronto Terror series and follows veteran goalie, Roman, as he tries to resist a former weekend hookup and now, new assistant coach, Lexi.
About If You Love Me
Roman is the veteran goalie for the Terror, who is planning to retire at the end of the season. He is a single dad, to Peggy Aurora “Hammer”. Although Hammer is a full grown adult, in a relationship with Hollis and working full time for the Terror, she will always be his little girl.
Lexi is the new assistant coach for the Terror, focusing on the defensive players. She was hired from outside of the Terror organization, and there appears to be some resentment from other coaches who also applied for the position. Last year, her mother and step father were killed in an accident and she became the guardian and sole support for her younger half siblings.
Three years ago, Roman and Lexi spent the weekend together in New York. She figured out who he was, but he had no clue who she was. Although it was just supposed to be the weekend, they have thought about each other and that weekend for the last three years.
When his wildest dream shows up on the ice, Roman is in shock. He now has her name, but she is his new coach which means she is off limits.
But how long will they be able to hold out for? Lexi feels like she is failing at raising her sisters. When Roman hears this, he becomes her support system. In addition to him, Dred and Connor are there for Lexi and the girls. In more ways than one.
But when another member of the staff reports them to management for fraternization, Roman and Lexi take drastic measures. Will they prove successful or bite them in their booties?
Impressions
This story has some emotional moments as Fee and Callie learn to live life without their parents. The holidays will be hard on all of them. Birthdays will be hard on all of them. But Roman will be there for all of the hard times. And surprisingly, so will Connor.
I think the most moving scene in this book is when Callie’s birthday wish comes true. She is over the moon, but will it all work out? So many things are up in the air with these people. We can only wish for the best for them.
Narration
I love listening to Stephen Dexter and he is such a great pick for Roman. He has that gruffness when needed to go with his smooth voice. Stella Bloom seems to be in my ears quite a bit lately. I love her voice and enjoy listening to her. I love her take on both Fee and Callie in this story.
