Play Dirty is book 5 in the LA Phantoms series and follows Marty and Stevie on their journey. Yes, we finally get Marty’s story.

About Play Dirty
Marty is a hockey player in the middle of a divorce and custody battle for his three children. His wife left him for one of his teammates. Talk about betrayal. When the teammate was traded to a team across the country, she went with him and took Marty’s children. Until the custody battle is resolved, the divorce will not be final. So even though he is not interested in dating anyone, he is stuck in limbo.

Stevie is a supermodel who suffered a tragic accident last year. In addition, she is known for choosing the wrong guy. The old adage that history repeats itself is alive and well in Stevie. Her tragic accident has left her with nightmares, and a secret she thinks no man will be willing to overlook. She is taking time off from dating to recover, both physically and mentally.

Marty and Stevie have known each other for awhile, but not well. During the off season, they both attend several weddings of mutual friends and teammates. At the first one they dance together and enjoy spending time together and having adult conversation. But at the second wedding, things get a little too cozy and Marty runs away. He is in the middle of a messy custody battle and it is not fair to lead her on if he is unable to commit to anything.
But neither of them can stop thinking about each other. Stevie helps him with the kids. They take them on outings. They relax in the backyard, in the pool. She does his daughter’s hair in ribbons. They start to coexist.
Until Marty receives a phone call from his lawyer.
Stevie will not allow him to lose custody of those kids because of her. She decides that for once she will put someone else first instead of herself. But is she really doing something good for Marty?
While Stevie is in Paris on a modeling contract, she takes care of some legal matters. When she receives the phone call from her lawyer with her court date about her accident, she contacts Chey. Since Chey is a witness to what happened, she must also fly to New York for the trial. They agree to meet a few days early.
When Marty shows up at the courthouse, Stevie is surprised. He took a leave of absence to be there for her. These two need to talk. They need to figure things out. So much has happened in such a short amount of time.
Impressions
This story contains mentions of cheating, a divorce and heated custody battle, a tragic accident, a trial, nightmares, and so many emotions. Fear, friendship, love, found family, separation and so much more.
I am so glad Stevie ended up with Marty. I believe he is the only one who will truly treasure her the way she deserves. Even though she told him her biggest fear, he is still willing to be with her. There are always workarounds to every potential complication for these two. And their workaround was truly amazing.

About Kat Mizera

USA Today Bestselling author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She has never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she would probably choose the west coast.
Kat is a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she is not writing, she is either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach.
As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There is something enticing about hockey players and romance…
