Lanie is a piano mover and tuner. She is now running the family business. When her friends Eliza and Julian come to Portsmouth and tell her they are engaged, she is excited for them. They have been in love with each other since high school. Then they ask her to be the maid of honor. Of course, she says yes. But there is a catch. Mark will be the best man. Will Lanie be okay with this?
Mark has no idea he has been adopted. He has no idea he has a twin brother. When he goes to a conference, he is called Mr DeVoss. He does not know who this person is, but he is enjoying being mistaken for him. Until the real Dylan DeVoss confronts him.
During a wild time of drinking, Mark and Dylan share stories about the women who got away from them. In a drunken stupor they decide to impersonate each other to find out why the women left them. But they did not expect the reactions they receive.
When Lanie and Mark meet again, after Dylan, posing as Mark, meets with her, Lanie is so confused. She is trying to figure out why the feelings she has now are not the same feelings she had at the last meeting. And she is stewing about a comment “Mark” said to her about a dare.
Mark is being super friendly. He was told Lanie had moved on, but during some of their conversations he finds out that she really has not. When she confronts him about the dare comment, he does not understand why Dylan would have told her that.
As they grow closer and more intimate, Lanie knows something is not right. Mark knows he needs to tell her everything, but he is trying to figure out where, when and how. He finally decides to tell her at their special spot where they have shared all of their secrets and dreams. But sadly, they receive a phone call that derails those plans.
When Dylan shows up in Maplebridge needing to talk to Mark, the proverbial shite will hit the fan. Secrets will be revealed. Lives will be threatened. And surprise visitors will appear.
Impressions
I cannot wait for the next book. I need to know why Dylan is really in Maplebridge. I need to know why our surprise visitors showed up and what wisdom they have to impart on Mark and Lanie. And what additional threats will surface.
